The Essence of New Classic Rock in 10 Songs

While you have the top Classic rock bands of all times gathering
around gathering tributes it is also important to look at what is
considered the ¨new¨ classic rock. These are songs and bands that came
onto the scene in the 1990´s and early 2000´s, and will some day be able
to be listed as true classic rock.

- Stone Temple Pilots
Album: Plush (1993)
While the 1990´s was filled with the newest in alternative rock,
this band slid in and became the alternative to alternative rock.
These artists were able to successfully blend in a bit of hard-rock
with a bit of pop in their songs, and paved the way for other bands
to branch out and experiment.
- Nine Inch Nails
Album: Closer (1994)
At the very peak of industrial rock you saw these artists bring a
mixture of what has never been seen or heard before. From their
distorted guitars to their extremely abrasive ways this band opened
doors to a whole new way of music for people all over the world.
- Soundgarden
Album: Black Hole Sun (1994)
When most people think about the Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell
they most often associate him with a singing style that is highly
intense. However, with Black Hole Sun the world was able to see a
different vocal side to this otherwise dark and intense voice.
- Everclear
Album: Santa Monica (1995)
This song brings out the yearning for those that are considered
mediocre. It dares these people to soar higher in their search for
greatness, and brings with it an unbelievable performance of
choruses and guitar hooks that will have you driving around for
hours.
- Spacehog
Album: In the Meantime (1996)
While you have only heard these artists the one time you will find
that this British band was able to add a bit of optimism to an
otherwise depressed era of rock.
- Limp Bizkit
Album: Nookie (1999)
This rock band was at the heart of the 1990´s rap-rock mix. From
their music you could see a mixture of the Beastie Boys and the Red
Hot Chili Peppers mixed in with the bands own special brand of rock.
And while Fred Durst and his posse have faded away it was able to
pave the way for others like Linkin Park to come in.
- Staind
Album: It’s Been Awhile (2001)
This song came in a metal package. While the popular mix was to keep
it heavy and hard this band came out with a surprisingly soft tune
that lulled you into a false sense of relaxation. But once you
listened to the actual words you would understand why it remained so
popular.
- Nickelback
Album: (2001)
While the world of rock was stuck heavily into the deep and dark
side of life this band came out with a powerful balled that helped
soften the edges of rock. What this did was allow others to come
back in and bring in a bit of what the Classic rock bands took to
the stage.
- Puddle of Mudd
Album: She Hates Me (2002)
While most rock bands tend to shy away from the comedy in songs as
they truly hate to be labelled as a comedy act there was one
exception with She Hates Me. This great song allowed for the funnier
side of heartbreak to come out and live on.
- Velvet Revolver
Album: Slither (2004)
With the guitar riff being the essence of what rock music is about
you will find that Slither does it and does it well making it stand
out above the rest.
